Kristin Walter

Petaluma, CA

Kristin Walter is a longtime advocate for Public Waldorf education, a mother of four children attending Valley Vista Public Waldorf and Credo High School, and a nonprofit leader with a deep interest in shaping a more humane and resilient future.

Kristin co-led the transition of Live Oak Charter School from an independent charter school into Valley Vista Public Waldorf, a dependent charter within Petaluma City Schools. Through this experience, she became deeply interested in the potential for public Waldorf education to serve broader, more diverse communities and to contribute meaningfully to the public education landscape.

Her work has centered on organizational development, collaborative leadership, and helping mission-driven organizations navigate change while staying connected to their purpose.

Kristin is particularly interested in the questions emerging at the intersection of artificial intelligence and education. If AI can increasingly perform the cognitive tasks that modern education has been designed to teach, what is education actually for? She sees this as an opportunity for public education to re-examine its purpose and approach, with a shared aspiration of developing whole, healthy human beings. The Public Waldorf community has something unusually valuable to contribute: not merely an opinion about technology or an alternative pedagogy, but an underlying theory of what a human being is becoming, and therefore what education is for. Grounded in a holistic understanding of human development, Waldorf offers a compelling framework for this broader conversation.
